SIGHTS

Palestine is home to several historical sights that are important to people of several different cultures. Lets take a look......

This is The Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem,
which is a place of worship that is of great significance to Muslims.
It was created in the late 600's,which makes it about 1300 years old.
People come from all around the world to see it's beautiful architecture.

a city in the West Bank. It is believed to contain the tombs
of several important religious figures like Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob. It is important to all three monotheistic religions -
Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. I only went there once
in my life.

It is the saltiest body of water on earth, and people can actually
float while sitting up straight in it. It is also the lowest
place on earth, when it comes to altitude.

CUISINE

Palestinians tend to eat plenty of bread, yogurt, rice, and lamb meat. They also have a variety of yummy desserts. Mmmmm........

150px-Hummuswithpinenuts.jpg
Hummus is first on my list. Its a dip made of chickpeas and sesame seed paste that is eaten with bread, usually for breakfast.

150px-Mansaf1.jpg
Next is mansaf, which is the national Palestinian dish. It consists of rice and yogurt sauce over bread and lamb meat.

250px-Sarma.jpg
Warak Inab, or grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat is also very common.
150px-Maqluba.jpg
Maqluba is mainly rice, meat, and veggies in a pot, that is turned upside down when served. Maqluba means turned over!

220px-Gyros.jpg

Shawerma, otherwise known as a gyro is a popular snack.

220px-Falafel.jpg
Falafel - fried chickpea balls are another yummy snack food.

THE LANGUAGE

Palestinians speak Levantine Arabic, which is a form that is similar to that of Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon. Here is the alphabet... I can read and write in Arabic by the way, and its my first language :)

THE CLOTHING/ART

Palestinian women have been expressing themselves through the art of embroidering dresses for centuries. Its a tradition passed down from generation to generation. My mom is quite skilled at this, and I attempt it from time to time. Its pretty time consuming!
